Stone Oak Community Invited to Sign Up for Registry

Friends, family and the community at large will have a chance to save a life on Tuesday, May 26, at a marrow drive for San Antonio firefighter Mike Grosso.
 
The Stone Oak Business Association, Welcome Home Community Newspaper and Bob’s Big Burgers are sponsoring a marrow drive in honor of Grosso, a 14-year veteran of the SAFD who is suffering from leukemia, from 4-8 p.m. that day at Bob’s Big Burgers, 4553 N. Loop 1604 West.
 
Nonprofit celebrates 40 years in community and other milestones

BioBridge Global (BBG), a San Antonio, Texas-based nonprofit organization focused on regenerative medicine, blood resource management and biologic testing, is proud to announce the release of its 2014 Annual Report.

The report details a transformative year for BBG, including a name change, implementation of comprehensive strategic plans for each business unit and expansion of services for the health care industry, all with the aim of continuing its longtime mission of saving and enhancing lives around the world.

We’re proud to announce that BioBridge Global CEO Linda Myers has been named one of the winners of the 2015 Health Care Heroes awards, given each year by the San Antonio Business Journal.

Myers was one of the winners in the category of Outstanding Health Care Executive – Nonhospital-Based.

BioBridge Global (BBG) board members Mike Kreager and John Feik submitted letters in support of Myers’ nomination, as did Dr. Steve Davis and Ann Stevens. Davis is a co-founder of San Antonio-based biomedical firm StemBioSys Inc.; and Stevens is president of BioMed SA, a nonprofit organization that supports the biomedical industry in our city.

The Blood & Tissue Center Foundation hosted an event recently for the Ruskin C. Norman Founders’ Circle to celebrate members’ contributions and update them about what their contributions have helped accomplish to support GenCure’s Texas Cord Blood Bank.

Some 40 members attended the event at the San Antonio Country Club. South Texas Blood & Tissue Center COO and Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Waltman gave a presentation about the impact members of the Founders’ Circle have on patients our organization has met through our services. Sharon Beales from the GenCure Cord Blood Center also spoke about how member support helps drive our mission of helping to save and enhance lives.

BioBridge Global takes part by drawing and testing blood of survivor

A team from BioBridge Global’s South Texas Blood & Tissue Center successfully drew a unit of blood Thursday, Feb. 26, from Dr. Akinniyi Emmanuel Fadipe, a Nigerian doctor who survived the Ebola virus. He was drawn at research firm XBiotech in Austin, and they will use it to continue their search for a treatment for those afflicted with the devastating virus.
